The creation of the GARDEN OF ZIEDONIS has begun with the planting of ornamental cherry trees on Mālkalns. There is also the cherry tree that the poet Imants Ziedonis planted himself.
Tukums was an important place for Imants Ziedonis during the formative years, as he spent his teenage years here, studying at secondary school; he got to know the area and the teachers who opened new aesthetic horizons for him and encouraged him to go further on the path of self-improvement and development. This was something the poet emphasised and reaffirmed on many occasions throughout his life, especially towards the end of his life. Also, with his last public campaign in 2010, when he planted 77 cherry trees together with members of the foundation “Viegli” to celebrate his 77th birthday.
