The first straw workshop in Latvia. These are items made with inspiration drawn from the heart, and it can be perceived in all straw works made by the Rītiņi family — Kristīne, Juris and Ieva Elizabete. Here, the visitors can look at more than 500 exhibits, including several thematic collections of gnomes, dragons, birds, little witches, mushrooms, exotic animals, as well as large-sized sculptures, such as “Puss in boots” standing 3 m tall, and the “Mummy mushroom” at 2.3 m. You will also see highly elaborate creations, such as sailboats, pirates, the island of Tobago and a castle mock-up. In 2017, a large-sized author’s piece was unveiled “The contour of Latvia” dedicated to the centenary of Latvia. It is made in the form of a photo frame, and guests can individually or in a group immortalise themselves with the impressive piece of art. Artworks are made of 100% ecological materials: straw and hay. In exploring the workshop, everyone will find something interesting and useful here for themselves and a gift for loved ones.
At the Straw Workshop, everyone can explore their creativity individually, with your family or in a group (up to 45 children or 30 adults). Here, visitors can acquire primary skills in work with straw or hay and create an animal, doll or other character using straw/hay. The Straw Workshop provides training and raw materials. You will be able to take the piece you have made back home. As a keepsake from the Straw Museum, you can buy original hand-made straw souvenirs.
