Jauntukumsis a part of Tukums, which developed immediately after the World War II for the Soviet army officers serving in the Tukums Airport. The locals call it also the war-town or “gorodok” (from Russian – a small town). It is a peculiar monument of architecture and urban planning bearing witness of the Soviet era. In Jauntukums, you can see the “Khrushchev buildings” constructed back in 1950-ties and the modern block buildings of the 1980-ties. The street names – Aviācijas (Aviation), Parādes (Parade), Telegrāfa (Telegraph) – reflect the army presence in this part of the town.
