Explore Lapmežciems with Audio Guide
Lapmežciems parish can boast with an audio guide accessible to anyone — it will guide you on explorative walks along the beach and through coastal villages of Tukums municipality.
“Our villages have become a popular destination for coastal and nature walks. We wanted to add an additional activity that would be both entertaining and educational, and would help to explore our coastal villages,” explains Dace Treimane-Freimane, the head of local society of coastal villages “Labklājībai”. “Audio guide is a definite advantage for our villages. It offers a new activity for locals and tourists alike — an activity that is available in all seasons, completely free of charge, on your smartphone, in Latvian and in English.”
How to Discover Lapmežciems with Audio Guide?
To access the audio guide, download the free application “izi.travel” on your smartphone, find Lapmežciems rural municipality in the search bar or scan QR codes of routes. These are available across the municipality on information stands, as well as on social network pages of Tukums Tourism Information Centre and the coastal villages. The audio guide can also be found on izi.travel website https://www.izi.travel/en/search.
The coastal audio guide currently offers 3 routes:
“Bigauņciems–Lapmežciems”, “Lapmežciems–Ragaciems” and “Cinema stops”. You can walk them separately or combine in a single 12-km hike, or just to listen to it to learn more about Lapmežciems. The routes are designed to include a coastal walk and a tour of the village, and the audio guide is supplemented with visual materials and a map marking the points of interest.
During the walk, you can learn more about sites such as the Lapmežciems School, which is located on the site of an old inn, about the piers and the two lighthouses, as well as about historical sites and events that are no longer present in nature today, such as Lapmeža Manor, the school in Bigauņciems, and Latvian film shooting locations.
The project “Listening Trails – Creation of an Audio Guide in Lapmežciems rural municipality” was implemented thanks to a project tender organized by the local action group “Partnership for the Countryside and the Sea” to diversify community activities. The project was funded from the Rural Support Service, and the co-payment was provided by Tukums Municipal Council. In the creation of the audio guide, society “Labklājībai” cooperated with Lapmežciems Museum and local residents by collecting materials about the local area.
This type of audio guide, which is available to anyone with a smartphone and completely free of charge, is the first of its kind not only in Lapmežciems Parish but also in the Tukums Municipality. The society of residents of coastal villages expects to be able to offer the audio guide also on other routes.
